We were happy to get involved with an exhibition at The Civic in Barnsley, and even happier to put a couple of the artists we work closely with forward for consideration for inclusion in the exhibition. Of course whenever we get the opportunity to get Toy Art out there for people to look at, we jump at the chance and help as much as we can.

We put forward the artists Okedoki and Doktor A and gave our contact at The Civic examples of their work to give them an overview of their style. They got back to us and said they would be delighted to have the opportunity to include the work of Okedoki and Doktor A, so we took the Benny The Dreamer box set down to them and left them to deal with Doktor A direct.

This exhibition is not about Toy Art, but Toy Art works well alongside the other exhibits in the exhibition so we thought it was a great opportunity to get Toy Art in front of people who may not see the work of the artists we know and love in their day to day lives. There will be an update soon when we have had time to get down for some photos. We have seen some of the other exhibits going into the exhibition and the Art Toys we put forward are in great company.

“The Toy Box: From Pop to Present is a new exhibition, exclusive to The Gallery@ The Civic, exploring the use of toys in the world of contemporary art and design. By using British Pop Art of the 1950s and 1960s as a starting point and the movements it inspired, the exhibition will showcase paintings, prints, photography, fashion and sculpture from around the world. The Toy Box also takes a look at how toy companies have collaborated with artists to create collectable art toys, such as Urban Vinyl.”
